NEILA KUN

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Neila is an artist working in photography, handmade paper and artist’s books. She also teaches small classes. Her work is inspired by the impact of time on memory. She exhibits her work in galleries both here and overseas.

Everyone has a story. That is what makes life so rich. My work is not about realism but about the reality we each hold within. I work with what is seen, what is hidden and what is revealed.

These pieces are touchstones to my past. They remind me of my family’s journey from there to here. These sculptures are part of a thread that ties one generation to another, one land to the next,  one kitchen to a new and different version of itself. The kitchen was and is the place where the family gathered, meals were prepared, talk was dished up and little ones quieted. Food and conversation were passed around to be ingested and all dreams were possible.

Neila’s work was represented in the exhibit, “The Artist’s Book”, under the auspices of the United States and Nexus Gallery. The exhibit traveled to countries in South America and the Middle East.

Neila holds an MFA in Photography from  Tyler School of Art, Temple University.  Her work is included in many collections including The Getty, Moma, The Philadelphia Museum of Art,

The Bibliotheque National and the New York Public Library.
